Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

General

What is Crescendo Green?

Crescendo Green is a Kenya-based company specialising in large-scale plant propagation, commercial forestry, agroforestry, ecosystem restoration and operational support for landscape restoration projects. We work primarily with carbon developers, NGOs, governments, development agencies and agribusiness companies.

Do you sell seedlings to individual customers?

Our primary focus is on wholesale and contract production for medium and large-scale projects. We generally do not target the retail market, although selected opportunities may be considered depending on availability.

Which countries do you serve?

Our propagation facilities are based in Kenya, but we aim to support projects across East Africa and, where appropriate, other regions of Africa through partnerships and technical assistance.

Plant Propagation

Which species can you propagate?

We produce a wide range of indigenous, timber and agroforestry species. Our expertise includes Melia volkensii, Moringa oleifera, cashew and numerous indigenous tree species suitable for restoration and biodiversity projects. Our sister company's field experience includes the establishment of more than 60 indigenous tree species.

Can you produce seedlings under contract?

Yes. Contract propagation is one of our core services. We work with clients to define species, quantities, delivery schedules and quality specifications, allowing production to be planned well in advance of planting.

What makes your propagation approach different?

We combine nursery operations with practical field experience. Lessons learned from large-scale planting programmes have influenced our recommendations on seedling size, container volume, hardening procedures, planting techniques and establishment practices.

How large are the projects you can support?

Our systems are designed for institutional clients and can support projects requiring hundreds of thousands to millions of seedlings through phased production and delivery planning.

Forestry and Restoration

Why does Crescendo Green focus on indigenous species?

Indigenous trees are generally better adapted to local ecosystems, support biodiversity and often provide greater long-term resilience. They also play an important role in many ecosystem restoration and carbon initiatives.

Why is Melia volkensii an important species?

Melia volkensii is one of East Africa's most promising indigenous hardwoods. It combines high-value timber characteristics with adaptation to semi-arid environments, making it particularly suitable for commercial forestry and agroforestry in many African dryland regions.

Do you only work on commercial plantations?

No. We support commercial forestry, agroforestry, ecosystem restoration, enrichment planting and biodiversity-focused initiatives, often combining these approaches within a single landscape.

Carbon Projects

Do you develop carbon projects?

We support carbon project developers through propagation, technical advisory and operational implementation. In parallel, our sister company develops and invests in nature-based projects that integrate commercial forestry, agroforestry and ecosystem restoration.

Can indigenous tree planting contribute to carbon projects?

Yes. Well-designed restoration and forestry initiatives using indigenous species can contribute to long-term carbon sequestration while also delivering biodiversity and community benefits. Project design should always be aligned with the requirements of the relevant carbon methodology and local ecological conditions.

Operational Support

Can Crescendo Green manage planting programmes?

Yes. In addition to propagation, we can support planting logistics, technical supervision, outgrower coordination, training and operational planning for large-scale forestry and restoration programmes.

Do you work with local communities?

Yes. We believe successful projects create shared value. Depending on the project, we collaborate with local landowners, community organisations, conservation partners and government institutions to support long-term sustainability.

Can you provide technical training?

Yes. We provide training on nursery management, species selection, planting techniques, establishment practices and operational systems for forestry and restoration projects.

Research and Innovation

Do you conduct practical research?

Applied learning is central to our approach. Through field implementation and collaboration with research and conservation partners, we continuously refine propagation methods, planting systems and management practices.

Are you involved in Melia volkensii improvement?

Yes. Building on years of practical experience and collaboration with research institutions, we are working towards strengthening the supply of high-quality Melia planting material, including initiatives related to improved genetics and seed production.

Partnerships

Who are your typical clients?

Our clients and partners include carbon developers, NGOs, government agencies, research institutions, conservation organisations, agribusiness companies and investors involved in large-scale land restoration and tree planting.

How can we explore a partnership?

We welcome discussions with organisations seeking a reliable propagation, technical or operational partner. Contact us to discuss your objectives, timelines and species requirements, and we will explore how Crescendo Green can support your project.
